| my summer plans abroad

Tuesday 19 May 2015

My blogging schedule has been a little sporadic recently, given that currently I'm in the midst of exam season (sobs). Once all my wonderful exams are finished however, I have many exciting prospects coming my way!

One of them will be working in France for two months in the Alps, in a hotel. I'm beyond excited to change up my environment. Working in a small team, I will have the possibility to converse with French guests and improve my fluency a little. I worry that I may get a little homesick, as this will be the first time ever that I'll be away for two months without seeing my family at all! This is made more bearable by the fact that I'll be working with one of my best friends from home. From this I hope to emerge from working with increased confidence in my ability, and an expanded base of vocabulary and grammar.

I'm hoping however that this will be helpful in preparing me for my year abroad. It still hasn't hit me that in less than 4 months, I will be living in Salamanca, in Spain. I will be studying at the university, (the oldest university in Spain!) which I'm buzzing for! Consequently, my blog will take a new direction as I aim to travel around Spain as much as I can whilst I study there. I want to properly immerse in the culture, mix with the people and hopefully it will start to feel like my second home! During the academic year, I have to carry out a research investigation (similar to a dissertation), which scares me a little that it's all my own research and independent work, but it should be fun as well as challenging.

The idea that my next year from June will hardly be stable or comfortable, certainly scares me a lot. At the same time though, I'm hoping that this will be one of the most exciting years of my life so far - I hope to gain even more independence, confidence in my linguistic ability and a new set of friends!

Thanks for reading! What are your plans for summer?
