| primer roundup

Hey beauties. I noticed recently that I've accumulated a little collection of primers, as I found out my favourite in the picture above, 17 Photo Flawless Primer has been discontinued (sobs). Having tried all of these for a while now, I shall give a short review of each one.

L'Oréal Studio Secrets Make-up Primer
I bought this from Fragrance Direct a few months ago when searching for a new primer. The formula is quite thin and runny, and looks a little like foundation. The colour looks a little scary but it blends in perfectly on the face. I found this a good match with my skin tone, but I'm not sure this would suit all tones, for some it would certainly look a little orange for really pale beauties! As for staying power, I found this extended my make up wear for an average amount of time, however I tested this in a seriously hot club one evening, and for the first time in a while my forehead became really shiny! I would say this is more of a daytime primer, if you're looking for something with more staying power you would need something more heavy duty.

L'Oréal Studio Secrets Anti-Redness Primer
I've mentioned this a few times on my blog, in my date makeup post particularly. The colour of this is a little scary but the green blends in really easily and really helps to counteract the redness in my cheeks. The consistency is thin and you don't need a lot to cover most of the face, although the bottle looks a little small, this has lasted me since last summer! Like the other L'Oréal primer above, this is more of a day primer, however I would say this has better lasting power than the other offering, even if the coverage seems more lightweight. I have also used this on nights out and it has done a reasonably good job of stopping make up sliding off my face, but I have found sometimes my skin looks a little dewier than I'd like.

Benefit The Porefessional* 30ml
I received this little sample in my #sotonmeetup goodie bag and I was excited to use this! The consistency is silicone and gel-like with a slight tint to it, which feels very lightweight and silky on the face. You only need a little bit to cover most of the face and it sinks in reasonably quickly. I would say out of all the primers this makes the most visible difference to your complexion before applying your foundation, and provides an even base. However the staying power is quite average; on a night out I found after a few hours my forehead had become a little shiny.

Seventeen Photo Flawless Skin Primer
I can't begin to count how many times I've mentioned this on my blog, it is without a doubt my primer of choice when I need one to rely on. Like the Porefessional this is silicone based and comes out as a clear gel. You only need a pea-sized amount to cover the face and it sinks in quickly. Straight away my skin looks much more even and most imperfections are blurred. The most impressive aspect of this is its staying power. Without fail every night out that I have worn this my foundation has stayed perfectly in place, and looks just as perfect as when I had applied it. I am truly upset they have discontinued the product because it's such good value for money as well!

Seventeen Stay Time Longwear Primer
This is the most recent addition to my collection, in my bid to find the closest thing possible to Photo Flawless. I hadn't read anything about this product, I'm not normally one to buy a product without researching a little but having swatched it in store the colour matched my skintone perfectly. The consistency resembles that of a concealer, it's a very pale colour so again I'm not sure if this would suit all skin tones, just something to bear in mind. I found this wasn't as easy to blend as other offerings, and the formula appears to sink in very quickly so you need to apply this quite speedily. The staying power of this was very good, as I wore this on a day out in the sun and my foundation stayed intact without slipping off my face. I have yet to wear this on a night out to be completely sure how long this would last, but during the day this has fared better than others.

Overall I would say that my preference will always be Seventeen Photo Flawless because it is the best all rounder. However none of these options are bad, it just depends on exactly what you want from a primer wear-time wise. Some I prefer because of lightweight option during the day, but fundamentally I want one which will last me through day and night time.

Thanks for reading! Which primer would you recommend? xx
