How I Fell in Love with Pets

How I Fell in Love with Pets
I haven't always been a fan of pets. When I was younger, I was incredibly nervous around dogs, especially the super jumpy ones. I'd even panic a little walking past dogs coming my way! But in my mid-teens, my interest in pets was piqued when a previous boyfriend got a adorable puppy, and everything changed. I haven't looked back and I've truly fallen head over feels in love with pets.

Most wouldn't believe it now if I told them. I am that person who goes all googly-eyes whenever I see a cute dog out and about, and more often than not, I am the first to spot them! I'm the first to admit that at this stage in life, nothing would make me happier than having a cute fluffy friend over a dribbling baby.

Recently, I moved to London, and my landlady has the most snuggly, attention-seeking cat called Calcipher and it's been wonderful having him around whilst I settled in. I grew up with hamsters and fish, but I never properly appreciated the company and calming influence they can bring.

As you can see, Calcipher is a true sun-seeker. The flat is south-facing meaning that on sunny days, the kitchen and living-room is filled with warmth and natural light. I feel very lucky! Like most cats, he changes moods all the time, and once he's eaten, he's the mushiest snuggle monster and loves to simply chill next to you.

In recent years, I've been around dogs all the time, and I believe that getting used to the company of excitable dogs is hands-down the best way to relax people who feel a little nervous around pets. After a few days around a young and jumpy labrador, the nervousness began to subside, and joy came its in place! Now, nothing makes me happier seeing a excited dog trotting along with its owner - I love the pet snuggles and moments of pure bliss with them.

After a week with Calcipher, I'm starting to understand his quirks and personality. Sometimes he likes his space, other times he's a bit needy and mews all day for attention. In fact, he reminds me of me (I'm sure my boyfriend will agree with me lol). I never had the chance to understand the comfort a pet can bring, and now I'm even more excited to have one of my own.

  1. oooh, I love pets! ... from a distance. I've never truly had pets in the past - only a turtle that lived at my grandparents. I feel very weird around most pets (especially if the owner is with them) because I'm unsure of how to act around them or how to handle them. I'm hoping that'll stop though when I spend more time around pets in the future!

    1. Ooh a turtle sounds super interesting as a pet though! I know what you mean, feels like you can't get too close because it's theirs. Calcipher didn't give me a choice - he always wants attention, but when the owner is home he tends to forget about me and pine after her instead haha! I'm dying for a pet of my own now.

  2. I was just like you- dogs used to terrify me, and we were never allowed anything other than goldfish and "sea-monkeys" as pets growing up, until my brother adopted the most adorable cockapoo puppy in the world, and now I'm totally smitten!

I so want a pet now - you're so lucky your landlady has such a lovely little cat - so jealous!
