Eat Street at Festival Place Basingstoke

The past week or so since arriving home has been rather busy. Before celebrating my birthday at The Ely on the Sunday, I headed down to Basingstoke on the Saturday to check out the yearly Eat Street event at Festival Place. I loved all the fabulous food on offer last year so I was excited to see what was new this year!

The concept of Eat Street is extremely simple - free food tasting from some big restaurant names, such as Nando's, Wagamama and Giraffe! Every year the shopping centre hosts a celebrity chef for demonstrations throughout the year. This years guest was Nadiya Hussain, last year's winner of Great British Bake Off! She has recently brought out her first cookbook, Nadiya's Kitchen, so she also stayed to sign some copies for fans.

It's clear that Nadiya is a favourite amongst Brits and GBBO fans. She has an accessible appeal that many professional TV chefs don't possess, we love celebrities to whom we can easily relate and identify. She demonstrated some wonderfully simple dishes, including a Massaman Curry with unfussy and normal kitchen ingredients.

There were lots of new stalls, including free coffee and cake from Starbucks, yummy gluten-free doughballs from Pizza Express and mini burgers from Gourmet Burger Kitchen. A nice aspect that I've noticed both years, is the great spirit and friendliness of all the staff that get involved. Having worked in retail and hospitality, I understand how stressful these kind of events can become for the staff but they remained polite and helpful throughout!

There are plenty of summer events coming up at Festival Place which I can't wait to get involved with now I'm home again!

Thanks for reading!
