Malta is a beautiful country. I'm beyond upset that me and my boyfriend were only here for four days, there were so many places we'd wanted to explore! On the second day, we travelled on a very crowded bus to Valletta, the capital of Malta. Once you work out the bus links, public transport is super easy to get around with. It was only €1.50 for an all-day travel pass, such a bargain!
Valletta as a whole seemed very well preserved, with lots of beige marble buildings, beautifully well-kept and immaculate streets. The main shopping streets were wide and spacious, perfect for the hordes of tourists that walked through. I was in European shopping heaven - There was a huge variation of big UK stores, such as New Look, BHS and Marks and Spencer, as well as popular European fashion stores, Pull & Bear (HEAVEN), Promod and Bershka. Sometimes the mix of so many nationalities became confusing; The Italian influence was strong, especially in the cafes and restaurants. But there was also a scattering of Maltese and English cuisine (hello English breakfasts).
In the first few photos are the Barraka Gardens, a gorgeous public garden which provides spectacular views from the top. Although very windy, we could see along various bays leading to Valletta, which shows how close every town is to one another in Malta!
Midway down you can see the main plaza, a huge space where groups of people congregated, took pictures and relaxed. The building in the centre was pretty important, one thing about Valletta I found a little strange. Lots of government-related buildings were placed out in the open, with little security! Perhaps government members in Malta are much more chilled? The whole atmosphere of the city was very relaxed. People were eating lengthy lunches, wandering around the shops, the sense of urgency here was not felt at all! I felt right at home.
